{RELEASE DAY}: Everlasting Hope

Today's the day! Everlasting Hope is now available :-)

Writing this book has been quite the journey, and not because it was necessarily difficult to write, but because this story was never supposed to exist. When I finished Eternal Life, my plan was to dive right into Jax's story so that he, too, could find his happily-ever-after. There was just one problem--I had no story for him. No suitable love interest that could handle him. No obstacles or plot. I was truly stuck. So I did what I do best and I procrastinated.

Slowly, ideas began to tumble around in my head, and I moved away from Jax's story and instead focused on Abby. After the devastating lost she'd suffered, I couldn't help but wonder how she was doing. Was she healing and moving on? What she still lost in grief? But most of all--what did Isach's letter to her say??

Then, the ideas came harder and faster, and I knew I needed to tell Abby's story before Jax's, though he plays a large role in this book. Originally, I'd considered letting Jax and Abby get together, but absolutely nothing about that felt right, so don't worry: they don't end up as a couple. I promise ;-) But you'll have to read the book to find out what does happen. And you can start with Chapter One for FREE!

{RELEASE DAY}: Eternal Life, The Cursed Series Book 6

Eternal Life is LIVE!!

Wow -- I can't believe it's the release day for the final book in The Cursed Series.

Way back when I first started this series, I never dreamed it would blossom into what it has: 3 books turning into 6. Readers from all over the world falling in love with Chloe, Trent, and Jax just as much as I have. Bloggers sharing my books. Libraries and indie bookstores ordering copies. The outpouring of love and support has been amazing, and I'm not sure there are enough words to express my gratitude.

Finishing this series has been bittersweet. I'm still riding the high of accomplishment (and disbelief) that I actually did it. I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters (though it's not truly the end 😉). Yes, tears were shed while writing this book. No, I won't tell you why. You'll have to read it and find out...

Here's everything you need to know about Eternal Life and where to get your copy:

And with mounting pressure for her to break the centuries old curse haunting her very existence, time is running out.

Trent finally returns, but he’s a changed man. Having endured unspeakable torture at the hands of his captors, he’s more determined than ever to ensure Chloe and the rest of his family stay safe, even if that means living on the run for eternity.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

“What about you?” I asked, marching up to Colt. “You spent a lot of time with Dante, and you’ve been running from him. Why not offer yourself up as bait? Draw him out so we can find Trent.”

“Chloe,” Jax said, his tone a mix of shock and anger. “We are not using Colt as bait. Trent wouldn’t want that.”

I whipped around to glare at Jax. “Do you think for one second if it were me missing that Trent wouldn’t do exactly that? He made a deal with a Zoya for crying out loud, just so he could find me. Find us.”

Jax’s eyes darkened.

“Trent did whatever it took to get us back. We owe him the same,” I said, my voice trembling.

“And how do you think he’s going to react when he finds out we sacrificed our brother for him? He’s going to be pissed, Chloe, and then he’s going to spend eternity looking for Colt,” Jax said, his tone hard. “Is that what you want?”

“I want my husband back!” I screamed.

The table shook, and several glass vials tipped over and shattered. The lights in the room momentarily dimmed. I froze, my heart lodged in my throat. My pulse pounded in my ears, and I glanced around at everyone else, who looked as confused as I was.

“What just happened?” I asked.

“I don’t know,” Ivy said, brows furrowed.

“That felt like a magical burst,” Isach said.

“What the hell is a magical burst?” Colt asked.

“It’s something that often happens to new witches who don’t know how to control their powers. They become emotional, and their magic literally bursts out of them,” Ivy said, her gaze lingering on me.

My skin crawled. Why was she looking at me like that?

{RELEASE DAY}: Eternal Promise, The Cursed Series, Book 5

Eternal Promise is LIVE!!

The Cursed Series continues with ETERNAL PROMISE. This book was the natural next step in the series, and I knew it was the book where a lot of things would happen--senior year stuff, graduation, prom, a wedding... There was also a lot that happened that I'd never planned for, and that's always a nice surprise. The ending of this book shocked me because it was not planned, and the character that shows up ended getting a much bigger role in the story. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do :)

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

“On the way back to class, I swore someone was watching me.”

I didn’t bother to tell him about Jax because I didn’t need Trent to start a fight with him, but also because nothing had happened.

“Watching you?” he asked.

I nodded. “But the hallway was empty.” I turned to open my locker.

“So, you didn’t see anyone?”

“No.” I grabbed my math book and shoved it into my backpack, then closed my locker. When I turned back around, Trent was right there. I nearly bumped into him.

He grabbed my arms and steadied me. “Do you feel like someone is watching you right now?” His gaze was intense and concerned.

I shook my head. “I think I’m just anxious. All this stuff is supposed to be happening, but nothing is actually happening yet. Graduation. The wedding. The honeymoon.” I gave him a sly, knowing grin. “The big change. The Zoya.”

He dragged his hands down my arms and laced our fingers. “I’m not sure I’d be so eager for that last thing.”

“I’m not.” I sighed. “I just wish something would happen. I’m tired of waiting.”

Trent captured my lips in a soft kiss. “We could always practice making a baby,” he whispered, his eyes sparkling.

I laughed and playfully pushed him away. “You’re terrible.”

The bell rang, and I groaned. Trent walked me to class, gave me a kiss, then left. I watched his retreating form, a permanent smile on my face. He was going to be my husband! I still couldn’t believe it. I spun around to go into class when someone at the opposite end of the hall caught my eye.

It was a girl about my age—she looked like any other student—but she had bleach blonde hair and wore red-rimmed glasses that were a size too small for her pert face. She was staring right at me. I hadn’t ever seen her before.

Squinting, I attempted to get a better look, but students were jostling me out of the way so they could get into the classroom. I shoved around them, but by the time I got a clearer view, the girl was gone.

Goose bumps erupted on my arms, and a shiver wiggled down my spine. Who was that? Was she a member of Ivy’s coven, sent here to watch me? Or worse, was she a Zoya?

{RELEASE DAY}: Eternal Love: The Cursed Series, Book 4

Eternal Love is LIVE!!

The Cursed Series continues with ETERNAL LOVE. This book was completely unexpected, and so much happened that I hadn't ever planned. Chloe and Trent really just took over, and they both have to ask themselves: How far are they willing to go for love? Where will they draw the line? It was fun to explore these questions, and very surprising in that the answers are completely different for each of them. Their inability to agree on where that line is leads to a lot of complications for them. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do :)

Blurb: As if having an unbreakable bond with Jax isn't hard enough, Chloe’s now forced to work with him on a major school project, and the more time they spend together, the stronger the bond becomes. Fighting it will most certainly drive her mad. But if she ever wants to have a future with Trent, she has no choice but to resist. Unfortunately, any hope she has of ever becoming a vampire and spending an eternity with Trent hangs on breaking the bond, which is an impossible feat.

Until an unlikely source offers them a solution to their problem. There’s just one catch—in order to fully break the bond, Trent’s immortal life will be linked to her mortal one. And with two of the most powerful covens in the world hellbent on killing her, the decision is a no-brainer. Not even the promise of eternal love is enough to make Chloe risk Trent’s life.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

I tossed my phone onto my bed and scrambled around to find clothes and my shoes. Less than five minutes later, I was sneaking downstairs. I was getting good at the whole sneaking out thing.

Pausing to make sure no one had heard me, I opened the door and slipped out. A blast of frigid air hit me, and I shivered as I very carefully and quietly pulled the door closed. When I turned around, I slammed into something hard. Fear paralyzed me.

I’d been caught!

I opened my mouth to scream, but Trent’s lips came down on mine, silencing me. Sighing, I wrapped my arms around him, and the next thing I knew, we were off the porch and standing in the tree line on the side of the house.

“What’re you doing here?” I whispered.

He spun me around so my back was to his chest, his arms wrapped firmly around my stomach. “It’s snowing.”

“I can see that.” I glanced up, watching, letting the cold flakes hit my face.

“I wanted to see your face the first time you saw snow,” he whispered, his voice low and close to my ear. “Sorry I woke you up.”

“Don’t be,” I said. “This was totally worth waking up for.”

The moon was high in the sky, offering a clear view of everything around us. The tiny white flakes twisted and swirled toward the ground and glistened like diamonds on the tree branches. It was absolutely breathtaking.

I tilted my head and closed my eyes, letting the snow hit my face. As soon as they landed, they’d melt, leaving my hair and lashes damp. Soon, I was shivering. I was definitely going to need warmer clothes.

“So, what do you think?” Trent asked, his voice full of excitement. He loved the snow.

“It’s cold. And wet.”

He laughed. “Did you know that no two snowflakes are the same? Each one is unique.”

“Really?” I couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not.

“Mm-hmm.”

Shivering harder, I turned around to face him and tucked my hands between our bodies. He covered my hands with his, warming them as best he could. My teeth were now starting to chatter, too. I was going to freeze to death out here.

But everything was so pretty and untouched, like Mother Nature had wiped the slate clean, covering the earth in a fresh canvas that was waiting to be disrupted. And Trent was here—that alone was enough to make me want to stay put.

“Did you leave your window open?” he asked, and I nodded in response. “Good. Hold on.”

Writing the second book in this series wasn't exactly the easiest feat. I had to pick up a lot of threads from the first book while adding new ones, working with both established and new characters, and building on a story I'd already created. His tongue swirled around mine, twisting and teasing, and it felt like he was trying to coax something out of me. I wasn’t sure what else he wanted from me, but I knew, instinctively, that I’d give it to him, whatever he wanted. I pressed even closer, moaning softly.

And then it happened.

An onslaught of emotion flooded my mind, overloading my senses. Love. Lust. Fear. Grief. Loneliness. Desire. Jealousy. I whimpered, but Trent didn’t release me. He deepened the kiss, pouring even more emotion into me, quickly followed by flashes of memories. Memories of me. Of him. Of us.

Me at my locker in Keene Valley. Punching Trent’s face. First shock, then amusement as he looked at me. Attraction. Curiosity. He wanted to get to know me.

Me on the side of the road, looking at the waterfall. Nervous energy and relief. More attraction. Pure joy. Desperation to spend more time with me, so he offered to show me the waterfall.

Me cowering in the hallway, scared and shaking. Trent’s immediate concern for my well-being. His awe at my offer to take detention so he wouldn’t have to. Him showing up and sitting beside me. He spent the entire time wondering why I was so kind to him, a stranger.

Trent flattened his hands on my back, holding me still as he continued to kiss me. The memories played out in my mind like a movie. I had no idea what I was seeing, if these were truly my memories or if they were nothing more than a twisted trick of the mind.

But as overwhelming as it was, I couldn’t stop. I needed to know how we ended up here, how I could have possibly forgotten so much of my life in Keene Valley, how I could have forgotten him. I was finally getting the answers I needed, and I couldn’t stop now. I threaded my fingers through his hair and kissed him deeper.

Skipping school and going to the falls. Eating lunch at his house. We sat on the couch, both of us pretending to be interested in research for a school project, but all he wanted to do was kiss me. I wanted to kiss him, too. We took a picture together—a picture he later stuck in my locker. Cute notes written on Post-its, and his concern for me thinking he was silly.

Rachel Wellington’s funeral. Trent’s face twisted into something nightmarish. Fangs. Him biting into Abby’s neck and drinking her blood. His confession: “I’m a vampire.”

Gasping, I jerked away from him, eyes wide. My mouth, numb from his kiss, tingled, and I absently ran my tongue over my bottom lip.

“What was that?” My heart was out of control, its thunderous beat drowning out the loud music and the sounds of the party. My chest heaved with hard, heavy breaths.

“Chloe?”

The sound of him saying my name like that, smooth as silk and self-assured, was like a switch in my brain. The rest of my forgotten memories flooded over me like a tidal wave—Trent’s deepest secret, the curse, getting kidnapped by Isach, being tortured by Hannah, Trent rescuing me, him telling me I was his soulmate and that he wanted to claim me…

I remembered everything. I knew Trent; he wasn’t just some sexy, mysterious stranger I’d encountered. He came here for me because he loved me. Because I loved him.

And I knew Jaxon, too.

All the weird instances of déjà vu, Jaxon admitting I knew him and Trent… some part of me had believed it was all just a lie, that they were playing some kind of joke on me, because how could I have forgotten so much. But now I knew the truth. I cupped my hand over my mouth to stifle my cry, but I was powerless against the tears pooling in my eyes. And then I smacked him hard on the chest. It didn’t faze him, though it made my hand sting.

“You erased my memories!” I hissed.

{GUEST POST}: 10 Things You Don't Know about Connie Ann Michael

Today I'm pleased to welcome my friend and fellow Anaiah author, Connie Ann Michael, to the blog. The second book in her Thousand Moments series, 1000 SILENT MOMENTS released a few weeks back, and so I thought it would be fun have her tell us a bit more about herself. So, here's Connie :-)

The biggest thing you probably don’t know about me is that I have been an author for about eight years. At one time I had three books out on Amazon and was busy promoting myself and then my publisher disappeared. Yep she disappeared and the authors had to scramble to get our rights back. I think in the long run it was for the best. It gave me a chance to look over the books and rewrite them. You see as you write more, you write better. So I hope they are better.  A Thousand Silent Moments is the second in the Thousand Moments series.  Now here are a few more things you may not know about me.

1. I have two college seniors
2. My son just registered for the NFL draft, he plays college football
3. I love to hike, kayak, or do anything outdoors
4. I love going to the movies
5. My secret talent is I can name a movie after only seeing a few seconds of it.  I have seen way too many movies
6. Reading is my favorite thing to do
7. I am a runner, a slow one but still a runner none the less
8. I have set a goal to climb three 14ers this summer in Colorado
9. I have a dog that looks like a gremlin after it gets wet
10. I write because I can’t sit still

Thanks so much for sharing all of that with us, Connie! Now, tell us about 1000 SILENT MOMENTS. (I had the pleasure of editing this book for her, and whoa! Have some tissues handy because this is one heck of an emotional rollercoaster!)

Only weeks back from the war, Emme “Doogie” Sawyer is in trouble. She struggles to fight the war in her head while also trying to build a relationship with Raven – who has recently returned from Afghanistan and taken up temporary residence in her house. Unfortunately, it’s hard to lock down the bad without cutting off the good. Soon, Sawyer begins to slip deeper into the darkness of the war she thought she left behind.

Running from his own mistakes, Raven tries to be the support Sawyer needs to move forward, but he soon discovers that in order to heal, they must rely on their faith more than they rely on each other. Raven takes Sawyer back to his childhood home, to where he hopes they both can find themselves and the faith they left behind.

Will they be able to find their way back to each other, or will the horrors of war and past mistakes destroy them for good?

RELEASE DAY for JADED LOVE!

Woo hoo!!! I can't believe it's finally here :-) JADED LOVE releases today.

And to celebrate, my lovely co-author and I have decided to do something a little fun...

Other than writing and publishing two books together, the best thing to have come from this working relationship is a close, lasting friendship. Over the past two years, I've really gotten to know Jody, and so now I want all of you to get to know her a little better, too.

For anyone who's followed our journey, you know that Jody and I met during a contest hosted by me and Anaiah Press. I'll admit, it was a rather crazy sort of contest in which the winning author got to write and publish a book with yours truly. When we launched the contest, I seriously didn't think anyone would enter. lol. So, Jody, what made you decide to enter that contest in the first place, and what was your mindset / line of thinking upon entering and then upon learning you’d been chosen?

Actually, it was my friend, Tara Creel, who told me about the contest and said I should enter. That was a tough one because she was also entering and I don’t love the idea of going up against friends. Plus, we were both in the final five. She was, as she always is, lovely and gracious and so supportive when I won so I was in a pretty good frame of mind when I was chosen. I was happy, nervous, and uncertain. There are so many paths to publication and it’s hard to know which one is right or if any of them are the “right” way.

Well, I'm super glad you entered ;-) Okay, now, let's get down to the important stuff. In Jaded Love, Kristy tends to ramble and as a result, often unintentionally embarrasses herself. Tell us, in detail, your most embarrassing moment.

Kara, this is a horrible question lol :) Okay. Um. Hmm…..should I go with the oldest or most recent. I’ll go with this one….my husband was teasing me on Halloween when we were walking with a group of friends. It was dark and I don’t see well in the dark. So he kept teasing and I turned and smacked him in the stomach. Only, it wasn’t him. It was a friend. My husband and our other friends found this very funny. Unfortunately, I do things like this frequently. Not hitting. But things that are embarrassing.

LOL. That sounds like something I would do. As a fellow book lover, tell me... If you could live inside of any book world, meet any book character, and/or fall in love with any book boyfriend, which book would that be and why?

It’s possible the answers to those are all different. I would love to be inside Harry Potter’s world because how incredible would that be? I’d love to meet and be awkward friends with Cath from Fangirl because she is real and perfectly imperfect. For book boyfriends….I don’t know...what I love most about the books I read is how perfect the main characters are for each other. So I can’t become the catalyst for their break up.

One of my favorite scenes in Jaded Love is when Jackson and Kristy don't go on a date to the chuch hosted singles dance. On the outside, it appears like a traditional date, but Jackson makes it very clear it's not, despite Kristy's desire for it to be a date. Have you ever been on a bad date? Please, tell us about it. (And don’t leave anything out!)

Yes. I’ve been on plenty of bad dates. There was the one guy who asked me out, made me drive, then when he suggested we go for coffee/snacks, told me he only had $5.00 so could I cover it. There was another where he decided we shouldn’t go on another date so he invited me out for dinner, brought a date for himself and a friend he thought I might like. I could keep going.

One of the themes we explored in Jaded Love was fear and forgiveness. Arguably, Jackson's greatest fear is failing someone he loves, not being able to protect those that are closest to him. What is your greatest fear?

Everything. I have severe generalized anxiety disorder. I’m scared of dying. Of something happening to my family. Of something happening because I didn’t do a good enough job protecting the people I love. I’m scared of getting sick, of messing my kids up, of not being enough and of you publishing my response to this question. So the short answer: everything.

Thanks for putting up with my wacky questions, Jody! If you want to see what she had to ask me, hop on over to her blog and check it out! In the meantime, don't forget to check out Jaded Love and enter our giveaway for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

When Kirsty and Jackson meet, the connection is instantaneous, but neither is ready to open up about their pasts. Can love and trust conquer their demons?

In order to have a future, they’ll have to face their past…

When Kristy starts receiving threatening messages, her anxiety kicks into overdrive, but the last thing she wants is Jackson worrying about her.

Jackson may doubt his ability to return to active duty, but he has no doubts about his instincts concerning Kristy. Someone is trying to hurt her, and he refuses to let that happen, even if it means going back to work; something he wasn’t sure he’d do.

As the threats increase, Jackson shows Kristy that strength doesn’t mean facing her fears alone, and Kristy shows Jackson that forgiveness starts from within. Can they save each other before it’s too late? Or will the past come back to haunt them?

{Release Day Blitz} Captive Potential

I am so thrilled to welcome my good friend and fellow author, Barbara Garren to the blog today! She's releasing the second book in the Phasms series :-)

Book: Captive Potential
Author: Barbara Garren
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Synopsis

Everything in Kelsi's life feels more like The End, rather than the Happily-Ever-After she anticipated with her prince, Aiden Hardt. She and Aiden are fighting. Again. His daughter Bryn wakes them screaming every night. By day Bryn is bright and bubbly, but at night her dreams are filled with a distant land, a dark-haired man, and a threat Kelsi couldn't foresee. Even her best friend Sarah is miserable.

Tossed between multiple planes of existence, Kelsi must overcome the barriers in her heart and mind to save those she loves: her friend, her lover, and the child she thinks of as her own.
Even if providing them a chance for their own Ever After spells the end for her.

Excerpt

“My love for Aiden is a deep, red pulse, burning with a slow and steady warmth that assuaged my loss, seeping to my very core, bleeding into every pore, every fiber of who I am, until I can’t breathe, can’t move can’t be without him near.”

Author Bio

I'm a writer, a reader and a frequenter of the more charming sites in town, namely pubs. I've travelled a bit. Lived a few places. Known a few men. It all ends up in a story sooner or later.

San Diego is home these days and my life is ruled by Charlie the Dog, a Valkyrie muse named Prue and a husband  who buys me scotch. What more can a girl ask for?
