Kara's 2014 New Year's Goals

Well, it's the start of another new year and I've been busy setting new goals for myself. But before I get to those, I want to take a moment to reflect on 2013 because it was a pretty awesome year for me!

In 2013 I...
  • Wrote and published a total 5 books!
  • Co-authored a collection of stories with 3 really awesome and talented ladies. (Love and Other Games is still only $0.99 so get your copy now!)
  • Joined Twitter and actually learned how to use it quite effectively :-)
  • Became an intern, Associate Editor, and then Senior Editor at Entranced Publishing
  • Attended my first writers' conference
  • Did my first face-to-face agent pitch and got a partial request from her
  • Made some amazing friendships that I will cherish forever. Excuse me a moment while I mention a few of them by name because they just deserve it:
                                   1. Melinda Dozier
                                   2. Ana Blaze
                                   3. Aria Kane
                                   4. Eden Plantz
                                   5. ST Bende
                                   6. Kat Daemon
                                   7. Rachel Kall
                                   8. Isabel Sterling
                                   9. Nikki Lynn Vale
                                   10. Rachell Nichole
  • Started a local weekly writing & critiquing group
  • Participated and won NaNoWriMo
  • Became a Managing Editor at Anaiah Press

Now, on to what I hope to accomplish in 2014...

1. Blog on a more regular basis. I know, I know. I made this goal last year, too, and I kind of stuck to it. I definitely posted a lot this year, but it was a lot of guest posts, author interviews, blog tours, and such. What can I say? I'm a sucker for helping my fellow authors. This year though, I'm going to blog about writing related topics -- querying, editing, marketing etc.

2. Finish & publish a new YA novel. As of right now, the book is untitled, but it's about a high school senior who is telempathic -- a telepath with empathic capabilities. She's been having a lot of restlessness that she chalks up to spring fever, but when the new boy blows into town, her restlessness disappears. She soon learns that this boy is her guide, the person she's meant to be with, and the boy who will save her from using her gifts for evil.

3. Attend RT 2014 & meet Ryan Winfield. Anyone whose followed this blog knows that I'm a huge Ryan Winfield fan. I'm already registered for RT 2014, and then I found out he would be attending as well. Woo hoo! I can't wait to have him sign my third Park Service book :-) Then I'll have the entire trilogy signed by him!

4. Win NaNoWriMo for a second year! Last year was the first time I ever participated in NaNo -- thanks in large part to peer pressure from Isabel Sterling ;-) but it was such a rush! I absolutely loved it and can't wait to do it again.

5. Build my client list at Anaiah Press. I would love to sign and work closely with a minimum of 5 authors. A total of 9 or 10 would be awesome! Update: I've offered contracts to 2 authors that I'm dying to work with. So, I'm already well on my way to this goal. Stay tuned on Friday for a complete list of what I'm looking for.

What are your goals for 2014?
Feel free to share them in the comments :-)

RELEASE DAY: Love and Other Games

Today, we're celebrating the release of Love and Other Games, a collection of four sexy new adult stories centered around athletes competing in the Winter Games by Ana Blaze, Melinda Dozier, Aria Kane, and Kara Leigh Miller.

Worth More Than Gold by Ana Blaze

Amy Pierce, the klutzy sister and manager of America’s Skating Sweetheart, is used to being invisible. But when a friend drags her to a party near the Olympic Village, Amy catches the eye of a sexy Norwegian ski jumper. It’s a magical night, but an awkward next morning has her running.

Everyone knows Erik Andresen’s best shot at an individual medal was back in 2010, before an injury pulled him from the competition. He’s there for his team, but a hot night and a remarkable final training session have him wondering if a gorgeous good-luck charm could give him another chance at the podium. With a little bit of luck, these two might have a shot at something worth more than gold.

Trouble With Gold by Melinda Dozier

US snowboarder and notorious prankster, Ty (Trouble) Madsen is only getting a taste of his own medicine when his Olympic teammates shackle him to a fence wearing nothing but his boxers.

Reception and protocol volunteer, Nadia Hoffman, gets up close and personal with the sexy snowboarder to rescue him, but she's not the kind of girl who lets her hormones get in her way. A professional performance could help her land her dream job at Olympics Committee Headquarters, but her new assignment supervising the rambunctious US Snowboarding Team is making that difficult.

Can she see behind the snowman in the community center bathroom and into the warm heart of the man everyone calls Trouble?

The Girl Behind the Gold by Aria Kane

Greek aerial skier Lia Milonas’s parents are about to lose the family farm. Saving it means medaling and landing a huge sponsor. While her no-nonsense attitude has her well on her way to a medal, it hasn’t won her a place in fans' hearts.

“Come back with a story that will make readers cry, or don’t come back.” This is what Brandon James’ boss told him before he left New York to cover the Winter Games for Moment Magazine. With a wink and a smile, he can charm his way into any invite-only party, but that career-making story is nowhere to be found – until he meets Lia.

The two strike a deal that should get them both what they want - but neither would have guessed they’d also find what they need.

Ice Gold by Kara Leigh Miller

Colton Campbell thrives on the fast paced, adrenaline rushed lifestyle of being an Olympic hockey player. Despite Brenna Jessup's abhorrence for the games and the athletes, she's hand-picked as the official photographer for the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. When a faux pas by Brenna almost costs Colton his career, she owes him. Too bad for her, Colton doesn't want apologies -- he wants retribution! And he knows just how to get it -- and her -- in the process.

Exciting Things Are Happening...

I've been crazy busy writing, editing, submitting, and doing a bunch of other fun stuff. As a result, my blogging duties have been slacking. I know, there have been a ton of special guests stopping by and sharing news about their new books and that has been fun. I mean, who doesn't love meeting new authors and discovering new books, right? But today, I'm stealing the spotlight to tell you about all the exciting things happening in my world. Ready?

1. I collaborated with the super talented Aria Kane, Melinda Dozier, and Ana Blaze to write an anthology entitled, LOVE AND OTHER GAMES, which is a collection of sexy, Olympic themed novellas. Last week we contracted with Swoon Romance for this project. It will be available later this year.

This was the first time I'd ever written with a group of authors and it was the best experience in the world. I cannot wait to work with these ladies again.

Here's the unofficial blurb for my story, ICE GOLD:

Hockey is Colton Campbell’s life. He thrives on the fast-paced, adrenaline rushed lifestyle. The fact that he’s the object of every woman’s fantasy is nice too. Every woman except one, that is.

Brenna Jessup hates everything about the Olympics, especially the athletes. In her opinion they are a bunch of spoiled, arrogant, over indulged kids. Despite her abhorrence of the games, she’s hand-picked as the official photographer for the US Hockey Team.

When a faux pas by Brenna almost costs Colton his career, she owes him. Too bad for her, Colton doesn't want apologies--he wants retribution! And he knows just how to get it -and her -in the process. Can Colton get the gold and the girl? Or will Brenna's ill-conceived preconceptions leave both of them ICE GOLD?

2. I am now officially a Senior Editor for Entranced Publishing in their Mesmerized and Thrills lines. I've even been working on a couple of manuscripts -- which has been fun. It's also a great learning experience that I know will only make my writing better.

On this note, Entranced will be once again hosting Twitter Pitch Parties during the first Friday of every month, starting THIS Friday. Using the hashtag #FridayRomance, you can pitch your story to us in 140 characters or less. This is open to adult romances only, so please no YA or NA. You must first follow Entranced Publishing on Twitter before pitching.

The pitch times for this week are as follows:
10am-11am EST
2pm-3pm EST
6pm-7pm EST
9pm-10pm EST

And yes, I will be lurking =)

3. The story has been written and the contract has been signed for the sequel to The Georgia Corbins. I don't have a release date yet, but I can tell you that the title will be --
Levi: A Georgia Corbins Novel

Squee!! I'm so super excited for this second book.  There's lots of good stuff happening in this one!

4.  A group of young adult authors published with Entranced Publishing -- myself included -- are working to bring you a brand new blog dedicated to all things YA. There will be cool monthly features, interactive posts, and giveaways. The official launch is scheduled for August 5th. In the meantime, follow YArush on Twitter and Facebook so that you don't miss out on anything.

5. I've written a new contemporary erotic romance, entitled JILTED and have submitted it to my publisher. Here's the really short version:

When Brett Hudson is jilted at the altar, he turns to the one person in the world he knows he can count on -- his best friend, Amy. In her arms, he'll find the solace he needs.

Amy King has been keeping a huge secret from her best friend -- she's in love with him. Too bad for her, he has only ever seen her has a friend. So, when Brett begs her to go on his honeymoon with him, she can't refuse. Can she give him the solace he needs while protecting her heart? Or will a week on a tropical island be her undoing?

Stay tuned for the release date and blog tour information!

It will be available exclusively from Entranced Publishing for FREE! That's right, it's FREE! I don't have a release date yet, but, stay tuned. As soon as I have it, you'll have it =)

5. My first ever collaboration project. I'm working with the uber talented Melinda Dozier, Aria Kane, and Ana Blaze on a book entitled LOVE AND OTHER GAMES. It's a collection of Olympic themed romance stories. My personal story contribution is entitled ICE GOLD. It's about an arrogant hocky player and the photographer who loves to hate him...or maybe she hates to love him...I don't know. I'm still working on that ;-) Stay tuned for more details as the project progresses.

6. I'm attending my first ever writers conference. The In Your Write Mind Workshop is being held June 27th - 30th. I'll be taking a lot of different seminars by a lot of talented writers and industry professionals. Friday night I'll be participating in a book signing event. I will definitely have print copies of THE GEORGIA CORBINS available, and if all goes well, I'll have copies of DEATH OF A WATERFALL, too. Saturday night I'll be attending a costume ball--how fun is that? Anyway, during the entire conference I will be blogging, Facebooking, and Tweeting all about it, so stay tuned.
