AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Krystalyn Drown

Fellow Entranced Publishing author, Krystalyn Drown is here today to answer a few questions and give us a look at her newest release SPIRIT WORLD.

Welcome, Krystalyn! Thanks for stopping by. Let's start by hearing a little bit about you.
I spent thirteen years working at Walt Disney World in a variety of roles: entertainer, talent coordinator, and character captain. I have a degree in theatre as well as many, many hours spent in a dance studio, that helped with myjob there. My various other day jobs have included working in zoology at Sea World, as an elementary teacher, and currently as a support technician for a website. In the evenings, I do mad writing challenges with my sister, who is also an author. I currently live near Orlando, Florida with my husband, son, a were cat, and a Yorkie with a Napoleon complex.

Where did you grow up and what do you love most about your hometown?
I grew up in Newport News, VA. I loved the fact that we had seasons there. Plus, we were right next to Williamsburg and Jamestown. It was amazing being around all of that history.

What books/authors have most influenced your life?
The Harry Potter series, of course. The world building amazes me. I would also have to say the Twilight series. I know it gets a lot of flack, but after I finished that series, I had the drive to complete my very first novel. My absolute favorite book is Blubber by Judy Blume. That was the first time where I thought, "Wow, the author gets me. It's like she's peeking into my life."

How do you choose your character's names?
If a name doesn't come to me right away, I usually start combing lists of baby names. I'll also take into account the character's heritage. My characters in Legasea had recent roots in Ireland, so their names reflected that. I like unusual names. And I never planned it this way, but a lot of my character names end up starting with an A. I've had Aileen, Alsa, Adria, and even Riesa's last name is Adair.

What's your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?
I honestly don't have a lot of free time. I have a full time job and a 4 year old son who keeps me pretty busy. When I'm not working or taking care of my son or writing, I like to veg out and watch TV. I'm pretty boring, actually.

Tell us about your newest release.
SPIRIT WORLD started out as a wish for a tattoo. Then, I started thinking about what kind of character would have that tattoo. The result was SPIRIT WORLD.

All Riesa Adair wants is a normal life. With the end of high school only months away and an outstanding GPA to bolster her college plans, that doesn't seem like too much to ask. Unfortunately, the voices screaming in her head keep getting in the way. Somewhere between her summer in a mental institution and her stepfather's attempt at an exorcism, she's learned to keep quiet about her situation. But, pretending to be normal hasn't prevented the spirit world from taking notice of her. Both sides of an ever-present war have focused in on her. Now she'll need all the help she can get to escape a powerful Spirit threatening to fulfill a prophecy that endangers the entire human world.
