I'm excited to finish the Torpedo Ink Series by Christine Feehan. This is a rather long series, so it's probably going to take me a while to finish. But if I do get through them quickly, I plan to just randomly work through my TBR by picking a book from my shelf and diving in. I find I read more when I do this as opposed to setting a reading schedule for myself.

Kara's Book Cravings: Vengeance Road

 

After finishing the first book, I jumped right into the second book in the Torpedo Ink Series. 

Vengeance Road by Christine Feehan is the story of Steele, the club's vice president, and Breezy, his former woman who got away. Breezy comes back into his life unexpectedly because their son (who Steele has no knowledge of) has been kidnapped by the biker gang Breezy used to belong to (her father's club). That club is downright terrible, dealing in human trafficking and downright brutal treatment of women in general. Breezy got out of that club and life and her father kidnapped her son as a way to get her back / get vengeance. 

Naturally, Steele is ready to reclaim Breezy as his woman, and he, along with the rest of Torpedo Ink, ride to rescue their son. Once again, we get more of the members' backstory from their time in the Russian school. I knew going into this one that there were darker elements, but I was not prepared for Steele's story and what he endured as a child. The imagery--while wonderfully written--is disturbing, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. 

Also, I found this book to be a tad too similar to the first in the language and descriptions and how the hero and heroine speak to each other. The hero in both books call the heroine babe or baby while the heroine calls the hero honey. Now, I realize that these are all very common terms of endearment, but with such a rich story and strong characters, I guess I expected each couple to be a little different in how they interact with one another. So, that was a little disappointing. 

This is a very long series, and I'm sure the rest of the books will be good, too, and I do plan to read them. Though I'll probably space it out a bit and read other books in between just so I don't feel like I'm reading the same story back to back. 

Has anyone else ever read a book or series where the similarities were too much? Where you felt like the characters' actions and dialogue were interchangeable? 

Kara's Book Cravings: Judgment Road

 

Confession time: I've never read a Christine Feehan book. Until now. I'd found one of her books at a used book sale, and I'm a fan of motorcycle club romances (MC), and so I snagged it. I then went to my local Barnes & Noble, and online to Amazon, to collect the rest of the series. I finally cracked them open. 

Judgment Road by Christine Feehan is the first book in the Torpedo Ink series. Torpedo Ink is a motorcycle club that was formed more out of necessity than anything else. The members were all former captives in Russian school / prison that trained them to be assassins. They survived that awful experience by sticking together as kids, and when they grew up and escaped, they knew they needed to stay together. 

The theme of family in this is very strong, as it is with most of the books in this genre, but I've never read one that had it as strong as this book did. For the record, I'm not saying that's a bad thing! I actually really liked this aspect of the story. 

This is the story of Reaper, the club's enforcer, and the bartender who works for Torpedo Ink. The atrocities they endured as kids has stuck with them, and so Reaper is very flawed. He has a hard time with intimacy, and so there's a lot of conflict between him and the heroine. 

Throughout the story, we get bits and pieces of what their childhood was like, and let me tell you -- this is not for the faint of heart. The backstory is dark and horrific. Overall, though, this was a very strong start to a new series, and I'm definitely hooked!
